Disabilities Awareness Course-Helpers

 Holders of the DAC(Helpers) can assist qualified teachers who are teaching aquatic activities to individuals and groups with most types of disability. Candidates are not qualified as teachers.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must:
  1. Be 16 years of age, or older, at the time of the examination.
  2. Slss Lifesaving 1,2,3 certificates required for (Helpers) or an alternative acceptable to the STA.
  3. Pay the requisite registration fee to the STA. 
  4. Attend an STA course of instruction that will have a minimum duration of 12 hours. Candidates must attend for at least 10 hours.Other than specified above no other prior experience or knowledge is required.
Satisfactory complete the following Units:
Unit 1 - Aquatic Teaching Foundation 
Unit 3 – Special Needs Support
 
Assessment
Entry Requirements
The qualification is assessed as set out below; candidates must satisfy all of the following:
  1. Completion of end of unit worksheet to the satisfaction of the course tutor.
  2. Correctly answering a 25 Multi-choice question paper (each of 1 mark - pass mark of 18) or 12 essay questions.
  3. Assessment by the course tutor whilst the candidate demonstrates correct client care whilst assisting a teacher.
  4. Completion of the Portfolio to the satisfaction of the course tutor.
